November 10, 2011 HW 1) What is absolutism?
It is an early governmental notion that promoted the utilization of despots with absolute power that were claimed to be bestowed by the God.
2) Explain the justification for absolutism referred to as the 'divine right of kings'.
The citizens under absolutism regarded the tyranny as the diplomat of God on Earth. Any bills that were fabricated by him must be passed and vetoing the mandate were inferred as challenging the God. Also, the absolute control over the population were premised to be the only method to restrain the unscrupulous human nature.
3) List the causes of the rise of Absolutism in Europe.
a. People needed a ruler who could manipulate absolute power to bring economic and political resurgence from bedlam of the 14th century.
b. Secularized individuals from papacy demanded a leader for guidance
4) In your opinion, is absolutism a good way to rule? Can you think of a situation where it might be a positive thing?
In my opinion, absolutism is an efficient method of governing in inchoate countries. Although it may bring unconstitutional, excessive taxes and coercions to the citizens, it is the least time-consuming procedure that Europeans used to yield unimaginable prosperity. For instance, when Soviet Russia was undergoing poverty, they advocated communism, which was influenced by the early concept of absolutism. Soon, the dictator started to focus on specific economic source that could earn them wealth; trading was one of them. Many citizens were encouraged to become traders and merchants and the Russian economic status skyrocketed.
However, absolutism has its limits as well. Albeit the notion of despotism is a time-efficient method of development in undeveloped communities, its substantiality declines as the society reaches a certain boundary of complexity. For example, by the time Soviet Russia reached its maximum potential, its society modernized, yet much complicated as well. So complicated that the despot himself was not capable of managing all the systems operated in his community. Even the simplest task of building rail roads involved the calculation of the materials needed to construct, cost for importing materials and recruiting laborers, and much more before coming to a decision to actually build one. As expected, Russia underwent a decline and many deemed communism as the culpable factor.
Think about People TODAY who you would considered to be ENLIGHTENED thinkers. Research what they have done - justify your choice in a paragraph.
I believe Jon Stewart is one of the "enlightened" thinkers of the contemporary era. Albeit his occupation as a comedian, his renowned role as an American political satirist makes him an epitome of the enlightened figure. Through his current comedy show, The Daily Show, he has critiqued over thousands of American politicians to not only derive sympathetic humor from his audiences, but also to evoke politicians to realize their actions from the critiques' perspective and reflect upon their actions, locating for flaws and areas of amendment. Despite his claim that neither his shows nor channels purport to be anything other than satire and comedy, he brings up solid arguments for any reasonable audiences to enjoy the show with the implantation of Jon's political view. In fact, so solid that the viewers might even become the critiques of the politicians mentioned in his program to jeer at. His reasoning against the political system and ones who rule it as a slight of rebellious remark is what makes him embody the notion of enlightened thinkers.

Summary India The Indian Empire (Moghul) was declining due to the conflicts among the countries' eclectic religions. Corruption of the governmental conduct bankrupted majority of the citizens and it led to the decline.
China The Ming Dynasty preferred to autonomously develop itself and without any influences from the foreigners. Their objective was to take control over the accumulating expanse that did not have to depend on other countries.
Middle East Contrary to the Indian Empire, the Middle East could not increase the tax that could support their military defense hence foundered to fortify the army. They had to rely heavily on European technology, becoming the military slave under European power.
Africa The isolation of the North and South Africa as well as the inaccessibility to other nations due to static rivers and dense jungles disabled them from technological development. Slavery became a source of wealth though took all the robust laborers, leaving no potentiality behind.
The Americas Spanish easily conquered America due to the nation’s incompetence. Indigenous crops such as corn, potato, squash, and cacao were the biggest economical support through both providing enough nutrients to the citizens and exporting the goods to other countries, however, diseases and weaponry imported from Europe killed stupendous amount of people.
Russia Russian were flourishing with power due to the enormous champion from the Orthodox Church; they proliferated their landmass and initiated the “westernization” that vastly influenced them. However, due to their despotic rulers who controlled all the wealth, merchants and industrial classes could not enhance Russia’s development.

Why have people decided to Occupy Wall Street, and other financial areas in major cities the world over?
American bourgeois, tired of 1% of the "excessively worthy" population controlling the entire 99%, protested at the Wall Street to voice their indignant complaints. Without having any governmental support, they demanded that actions need to be taken to balance out for the wellness of the entire population. Even if they were claimed to be inhabiting in the nation of democracy ruled by the citizens, it was actually the wealth that ruled them.
Who might oppose those who are occupying Wall Street or demonstrating? Why are they opposing them?
Politicians might oppose the revolts since they were mostly nonchalant about such topic and have/could not cope with such tragedy that involved plethora of people. Through demonstrating, their reputations will aggravate and might have to abdicate from their position.
The 1% may oppose to the demonstrating because in their perspective, the 99% has not tried hard enough to deserve the balancing of the economy.
